PKN ORLEN, the largest Polish oil company and one of ARCADIS’ longest standing clients, operates a network of filling stations and fuel terminals. Over the years, ARCADIS has provided a broad range of environmental consulting services, particularly land remediation and in-situ and ex-situ soil and groundwater clean up. The results of these efforts are modern filling stations and fuel terminals that do not endanger the environment or human health and fulfill environmental standards.

ARCADIS’ task has been to remove the fuel-derived contamination that was discovered in both soil and groundwater beneath the site. The first stage was to pump the fuel fraction, which accumulated on the surface of groundwater. Different devices had been used to separate contaminative substances such as bioreactors and separators. The second stage was aimed at soil treatment, done using a ventilation method based on pumping air into the ground. In many locations, ARCADIS experts carried out ex-situ remediation: the excavation of contaminated soil and replacement with clean soil.
