In Ramstein, in the southwest of Germany, the KMCC will be built on an approx. 16 ha plot, on the site of Ramstein Air Base, immediately to the north of the airfield in the business center of the airbase and in the heart of the whole Kaiserslautern military community. Ramstein Air Base is currently being extensively developed and enlarged and in 2005 will form NATO's military mobility hub. Each week, several thousand US-Army and US-Air Force employees will be transported to the whole world via Ramstein Air Base.

Parking lots consisting of 2,730 parking spaces are arranged around the whole KMCC and provide the customers and employees with conveniently located access to all sub-areas of the project. A ten-meter change in gradient from the northern to the southern KMCC boundaries enables a parking deck with 3 levels to be built beneath the southernmost parking lots. The almost 5.0 ha community center will contain business/shop areas, entertainment and catering areas, service areas, public transport facility areas and utility areas, a goods processing area, 350-room accommodation and a reception center. The KMCC is arranged linearly from south to north. The length of the facility is mostly comprised of 1-storey shops with a catering and entertainment area component on 2 levels in the center and an 8-storey accommodation tower above the southern end, in the immediate vicinity of the passenger terminal and airfield. Six public accesses are planned.

ARCADIS' scope of Services:

• Design of the parking deck incl. planning of the structural framework
• Subsoil investigation and foundation consultancy as well as specialist construction supervision
• Design and construction supervision of the required traffic facilities, the engineering structures and the technical equipment as well as the needed electrical engineering
• Design of the engineering structures incl. planning of the structural framework and the technical equipment of the stormwater retention basin and the underground pumping station
• Project management and –control
• Site management
