The Olympic Stadium in Tunis was built especially for the fourteenth edition of the Mediterranean Games. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 seats, among which threehundred skybox seats and fivehundred clubseats on the main stands. Further, there is a presidential lounge with room for twohundred people, sixty IP seats and ten fully equipped press seats. ARCADIS, in cooperation with Rob Schuurman and Riadh Bahri of Atrium Design, was responsible for the design. We further advised with regard to the construction, inner environment and energy, and project management.
Since the stadium is located in an earthquake sensitive delta area, high demands were placed on the safety of the building. It therefore meets the most stringent requirements of the Euronorm and the French norms for safety in stadiums.
The project was realized in Tunesia in combination with a Spanish and Korean contractor. ARCADIS was assigned by two Tunesian ministries, the Ministère de l'Equipement et de l'Habitat and the Ministère de la Jeunesse et de l'Enfance.
