THE CHALLENGE: At a former Russian Army base, historic contamination, including fuel spills, posed a threat to human and ecological safety.

THE APPROACH: The Municipal Government requested ARCADIS to assess the situation and to deliver the needed remedation services. First, based on the SPILLCAD computer program, ARCADIS prepared various simulations and hydrodynamic models were prepared. Next, pumping procedures were started. About 400m3 of fuel was recovered.

THE RESULT: Current monitoring of the groundwater and bioventilation recovery process indicates a dramatic recovery of soil and groundwater.
