Guaranteed Environmental Remediation of Petroleum Storage Facility, USA
|
THE CHALLENGE: A 440-acre petroleum storage and transfer facility was closed after 70 years of operation. The owner was faced with decommissioning the terminal, removing the assets and addressing environmental contamination to prepare the property for sale quickly.
THE APPROACH: ARCADIS offered guaranteed environmental remediation costs and assumed complete responsibility for site remediation and closure. We designed an innovative, large on-site bioreactor for the biological treatment of soils and developed a phased approach to remediation, whereby designated parcels were completed in succession and turned over to prospective developers.
THE RESULT: We were able to achieve closure two years ahead of schedule, which enabled our client to retain a high redevelopment-potential site outside a portfolio of sites slated for divesture.
