THE CHALLENGE: A disused chemical industrial site in the département du Bas Rhin was seriously contaminated by acetone, toluene, 1,1,1 trichloroethane (TCA).

THE APPROACH: ARCADIS decided to remediate the groundwater contamination using  the simultaneous implementation of two techniques: pumping / stripping and biosparging. Three pumping shafts were sunk 10 m deep into the soil in addition to 14 air injection shafts of 9 to 11 m deep.

THE RESULT: The registered concentrations decreased dramatically: Acetone by 99.96% and Toluene by 99.8%.
