THE CHALLENGE: The closed waste management landfill of Maslice posed hazards to surrounding air, soil and water conditions.

THE APPROACH: ARCADIS assessed the landfill's impact on soil and groundwater. By creating a special cover, the leakage of contaminated water reduced significantly. A compost plant was realized on the premises. Finally, an installation was built for removing biogas from the landfill, thus creating a new energy source for the region.

THE RESULT: A landfill site that is no longer polluting its surroundings and, even better, contributes to community by delivering an important part of its energy.
