THE CHALLENGE: In the past, asbestos containing materials were used many times as surface materials for faryards, parking lots and tracks. One of ARCADIS' British clients requested a full-scale overview of the contamination caused by asbestos materials that it distributed and its responsibilities.

THE APPROACH: ARCADIS has been working with the client since 2002 on issues concerning land contaminated with asbestos. A number of tracks, paths and farmyards, including a village hall car park have been identified as surfaced in loose asbestos containing material.
The work carried out by ARCADIS included a Risk Assessment based on assumed exposure scenarios. Identification of actual exposure scenarios present at identified footpaths, tracks and the village hall car park. Further investigation encompassed the identification of actual exposure scenarios on identified farms.
Further works included the actual contract for implementation of the asbestos remedial works at the village hall car park.

THE RESULT: A clear overview of the contamination, resulting in the decontamination of the sites that pose the highest risk.
