THE CHALLENGE: The industrial location of one of our chemical clients in the Netherlands was closed in 2003 because the location had proved not to be sufficiently competitive. The present site does not offer enough possibilities for expansion, as a result of which a location in Germany took over the production activities. Decontamination of the Dutch site was needed.

THE APPROACH: ARCADIS received the request to assess the environmental situation of the entire site on the Kleefse waard in the Netherlands and to provide insight into the expected costs with respect to the clean-up of the site.  The decontamination plan was drawn up based on the results. The execution of a soil decontamination procedure was then reported to the appropriate authority. ARCADIS provided support during the negotiations with contractors for the purpose of the clean-up and demolition. Concerning the decontamination, ARCADIS is responsible for the environmental supervision, along with seeing to the general management of the project in its entirety.

THE RESULT: A demolished and cleaned up site, ready for future development.
