Environmental Stewardship Plan, USA
|
THE CHALLENGE: A plan for sustainable development and environmental stewardship was necessary for a pharmaceutical company's 443-acre facility that consists of buildings, parking lots, agricultural fields, lawns, forests, waterside corridors, ponds and wetlands.
THE APPROACH: ARCADIS worked closely with the state environmental protection agency, local watershed association and surrounding community to develop a successful Watershed Management Plan. We identified ways to reuse water, reduce wastewater discharge and reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides and implemented improved storm-water Best Management Practices (BMPs).
THE RESULT: Working in consort with the stakeholders, we were able to preserve emergent wetland areas, fallow fields and agricultural areas to provide habitat and food sources for a variety of wildlife species and create a refuge for wildlife and an educational nature trail for the community. Our client demonstrated corporate social responsibility, and the project received certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council.
