Emergency intervention after fuel oil leak, France

THE CHALLENGE: As a result of the breakage of a buried domestic fuel oil pipe in an oil depot in Calvados, more than 4.000 litres of fuel oil spilled.

THE APPROACH: Arcadis performed an emergency intervention involving the installation of a piezometer system in order to identify the propagation of the floating pollution and to perform the initial stages of the depollution works.
The services involved:
- First month: treatment by pumping / skimming (active dynamic skimming)
- Following month: straightforward skimming (active static skimming)

THE RESULT: The large majority of the spilled oil was retrieved, preventing serious and permanent contamination.
