THE CHALLENGE: Following a fire at a large oil storage depot, ARCADIS was commissioned by depot operators to conduct environmental investigations within the site and surrounding area to determine the potential environmental impact from hydrocarbon fuels and firefighting foams.
THE APPROACH: The work completed to date has included conducting desktop studies, preparing action plans, excavating test pits, conducting borehole investigations, installing observation wells and collecting soil and groundwater samples for analysis, completing a risk assessment and liaising with regulators.
THE RESULT: ARCADIS continues to support the operators in managing the environmental issues associated with the incident and is leading the ongoing groundwater monitoring program. Further assistance is to be provided during site restoration.
