The approving authorities (Bezirksregierung Rheinhessen-Pfalz, Neustadt, Germany) prescribed the appropriate TA-Abfall as basis for all planning requirements for the municipal landfill site Schneeweiderhof. This meant, that planning could not be based on existing plans for municipal landfill sites, but rather that the individual elements and the interaction of all these elements for the "System Landfill Site" had to be redeveloped or altered following the model of the TA-Abfall.

The documents used for the confirmation of planning procedure were prepared in 1992. As early as spring 1994 the remaining required investigations and the clearing of the site could be started. During summer 1996 the design plans were made and in fall 1996 the site preparations were started.

The waste storage capacity is assumed ranging between 20.000 and 30.000 Mg/year. The landfill site "Schneeweiderhof" has a total sealing area of approximately 14 hectares with a total landfill capacity of about 2 million m3, which corresponds to a calculated filling period between about 60 and 90 years. The total investment costs for the landfill site, including recultivation, amounted to approximately 25 mil EUR. Since its operation, ARCADIS is also the operation consultant for this landfill site.
