The public bus company of the city of São Paulo (São Paulo Transportes, SPTrans) is working on expanding the network of dedicated bus corridors. Since the city suffers from a lot of traffic congestion, corridors are needed to offer an efficient public transportation system, that is competitive with the use of private cars.
The corridor Guarapiranga has an extension of about 8 kilometres. It will serve the public transport system in the southern part of the metropolis of São Paulo. It will link the terminal Jardim Ângela with the Terminal Santo Amaro, using the main avenues of M´Boi Mirim, Guarapiranga and Largo do Socorro. Here it will meet the corridor of Rio Bonito, which will form the connection with the transfer station of Vitor Manzini.
These projects are presently under construction. Major issue for execution of the works, is the interference with the heavy traffic. During the implementation of the corridors, also the road pavement, drainage and road signalling are being improved.
ARCADIS does the site supervision, surveys and inspection of equipment for this project. Also technical verifications, support for expropriation and the interface with the concessionaires for bus operation, the contractors, the public authorities and residents and companies in the area is being taken care of by ARCADIS.
