Franz-Josef-Strauss-Airport Munich, MAC

The Munich Airport Center (MAC) is the shopping, service and communication center of the expanding Munich airport. It represents the central link between Terminal 1 and the new Terminal 2, which will be completed in 2003. The impressive roofed Forum in the center of the MAC provides an excellent platform for any kind of event. Extensive office space and numerous service facilities are located in the two L-shaped wings bordering the Forum.

The growing number of passengers at Munich Airport and the expansion of the passenger terminal made necessary the creation of high-grade office space and traffic infrastructure.

The Munich Airport Centre (MAC) creates a roofed link between the existing and new terminal. MAC Grundstücksgesellschaft mbH & Co KG commissioned ARCADIS in 1996 to carry out the structural design and site supervision. The roof consists of a cable-supported steel skeletal frame with alternating glass and fabric panels. It measures around 19,000 m2 with a span of about 90 m and a height of about 41 m.
