The approach
A tunnel through the Alps. Travelers rushing to their destinations in high-speed trains. Freight moving by trains and trucks through rather than over the Alps. Safe? We're working on it. Studying the safety requirements in and around the tunnels to determine their ability to reduce the effects of calamities. Advising what additional measures are needed to guarantee safety. In the meantime, producing the technical design of the trajectory.

The result
A vital and safe link in the European rail network. Two multiple-use rail tunnels on the track between Lyon in France and Turin in Italy. The first trains will use the tunnel in 2015. Faster and safer.
