In 1997 ARCADIS in Germany was commissioned by the TWK Versorgungs-AG to do the performance planning and the superintendence of the constructions works for the reconstruction and expansion of the water treatment plant of the City of Kaiserslautern.
The construction works had to be performed inside the existing narrow waterworks while completely maintaining the ongoing water supply for the City of Kaiserslautern. Extreme requirements for the water processing method were set, as the main water supply facility is located at a mere distance of ca. 100 m from the waterworks.
The raw water is treated in the facility with a flow rate of max. 1260 m3/h over nine filter vessels with filter material for decarbonating as well as a post-UV desinfection. The filter washing and filter material refilling ensues fully automatic.
The following engineering services were performed in the course of this project:
- Fundamental research and pre-design
- Performance planning
- Tender action and assistance in the decision on order awards
- Superindendence of the construction works
